This Chicago pedestrian bridge connects the third floor on the
West side of The Art Institute of Chicago with the "Great Lawn" in
Millennium Park. The bridge was designed by Renzo Piano who also
designed the adjacent part of the institute. The bridge, inspired by a
ship's hull, is over 190 meters long and 4.6 meters wide. The aluminium
bridge sections are anti-slip and the surface is heated by an integrated
heating system to ensure snow and ice don’t stand a chance in making
the bridge slippery and impassable in the winter.
